CHS Choir Students Participate in Recital

Members of the CHS choir department participated in their first juried recital on Saturday, February 21 at Tibbits Opera House.   Twenty-five students prepared two songs each to be performed as a solo or as part of an ensemble, and were evaluated by a panel of local judges on various aspects of musicianship.  The Balladiers also performed for the audience.  The event lasted all day and was a wonderful chance for students to get some solo time on stage.  Jessie Lillis, a senior at CHS commented, “I got way more nervous than I usually do, because being on the stage at Tibbits always feels like a more ‘real’ experience.”  Each student was given fifteen minutes to perform and receive feedback from the judges.

SMAC EAST CHAMPIONS!

Gladwin Holiday Tournament Champions. Thirteen game winning streak. Southwestern Michigan Athletic (SMAC) East Division Champions. Battle Creek Enquirer’s top ranked team. Honorable mention team in the Associated Press Class B poll. These were the accomplishments of 2008-2009 boys’ varsity basketball team.

This year’s team provided much excitement for Coldwater High School and the overall Coldwater community. After facing a tough early season schedule with several tough Class A schools, the team ran off thirteen straight victories, going over two months without a loss. In that time the team posted a perfect 8-0 record in the SMAC East besting the other schools by four games. The only blemish on the year was an early exit in the state tournament.

Coldwater also dominated the SMAC East All Division team with four team members selected: Jacob Robison (MVP), Cam Holicki, Bobby White, and Spensor Tanner. The remainder of the team included Brandon Buckley, Aaron Taylor, Allen Wilson, Joe Feldbauer, Sam Foster, Danny Howells, and Seth Szafranski.

With 7 juniors returning and a strong junior varsity group coming up next year, the future looks bright for Coldwater boys’ basketball.
