Jefferson first graders are now beginning their seventh chapter of study in character education. Jefferson school has made the commitment to not only teach the academic curriculum but also help our students become responsible, caring people.
To date, we have covered the subjects of responsibility and respect, citizenship, compassion, fairness, honesty, integrity and now perseverance. Each lesson contains something for each day of the school year. These lessons are a fun and positive way to use real-world applications to help students understand the concepts personally, as well as give parents opportunities to support and be informed about what is happening in the classroom.
We at Jefferson agree with the character education philosophy that if you teach students that they are responsible for themselves and their choices that they will become better people. The students are enjoying this curriculum and the first grade has felt success in the students' acceptance of responsibility.

Jefferson Attracts Famous Guests
Mrs. Buys’ Fifth Grade classroom was recently crowded with lots of very famous people, or at least with the likenesses of lots of famous people. The students had the assignment to read biographies for their monthly book challenge and then create life-sized models of their person which they then introduced to the class. Oprah Winfrey, Alexander Graham Bell, Shirley Temple, Stephen King, and Helen Keller were just a few of the exciting people who came to visit!

Kids Save.....School Wins!
Jefferson held the winter session of their “Box Top Contest” recently and Mrs. Buys’ fifth grade won the top honors. They brought in over 1100 box tops from their class alone! That translates into over a hundred dollars for the Library to use to purchase materials for our school. All together, the school brought in over 8,200 box tops! Way to go, kids! Mrs. Buys’ class celebrated their win with a sub party! Save those box tops! There will be another contest next Fall.
